Weekender August 8 2016
The Olympics are coming! The Olympics are coming! Friday marks the official beginning of the 26th Summer Olympic Games from Rio, with the opening ceremonies from Maracana Stadium in Rio. The games will run Friday, August 5th through Sunday, August 21st. I love cheering for the athletes; whether it be Gabrielle Douglas going for the gold again in gymnastics, or Michael Phelps trying to add to his 18 gold medals as he at-tempts to set a record as the oldest swimmer to earn a gold record—but I also find myself caught up in the story of the Jamaican woman discus thrower,
Tarasue Barnett, who attends Grand Canyon University in Phoenix and proudly represents her home country of Jamaica. So whether it is cheering proudly for your country, or an individual athlete’s accomplishments that bring you to your feet—enjoy the Olympics; they’re only here for two weeks!
